Fans of RJD2: Do not expect to fall in love with The Third Hand on the first spin. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it, myself.
"Fuck Hip Hop"
You will initially ponder a few things: Why are there vox on damn-near every track?; Did I buy the right CD?; Whose ass do I have to chap for a hip-hop beat?; Why are there vox on every track?
But that's just the first spin. It may take your ears a while to calibrate, but it is RJD2. Accept that he felt like putting out a different kind of record, and the finer things should start to surface. At least that's what I'm telling myself.
Here's the good, the bad and the ugly from The Third Hand. Draw your own conclusions.
