My last post included a nod to Minneapolis' The Honeydogs. Their latest has grown on me since then, so here's another from Amygdla. Buy this album now.

This opening track from Andrew Bird's upcoming Armchair Apocrypha has likely surfaced elsewhere by now. Not yet sure how to compare this record to The Mysterious Production Of Eggs, but it's certainly a different sound. You decide.
Buy it on March 20.

I'm also still trying to get a feel for Sondre Lerche's new disc. The shifty Norwegian is clearly going for a different sound on Phantom Punch; his heavy, raucous guitarishness (no, it's not a word) moving in on the melodic, less-raucous pop feel of Monologue. I had been intent on giving a nice Charlie Hunter update here, but it turns out the sumbitch's Web site is down. Reports are that he's working on a new joint. Maybe next time.
Anyway, I was digging on this track in a traffic jam today.
If you like real music—or at least appreciate good musicianship—and don't know of Charlie Hunter, I feel for you, my friend. Buy/Listen to him. (For you virgins, that's a good one to start with.)

I've been trying not to get hung up on the hockey posts so much this year, but it appears that the New York Rangers' situation has become critical. Thus, I open this can of worms. They are in dire need of several playoff-implication wins, and lord knows they need all the nonsensical blog help they can get.
This guy knows what I'm talking about.
Hockey! Jammyz! Poor guy.
